Things are pretty good! I'm approaching the start of my eighth year in Baltimore, which for me seems hard to believe. Not sure my wandering years are over yet, though. I've been feeling that restless itch again. I'm working as an embedded librarian (i.e. not in a library), but I must admit that my job becomes more tangential to the rest of my life with each passing year. How about you? Are you working in the public library there? My conference group took a tour of the Mechanics' Institute Library. It was interesting, but membership libraries seem weird to me.

Hello R.John! The WordPress "friend finder" told me you were here. Didn't know you'd moved to SF. Oddly enough I was just there a couple of weeks ago for a librarian conference. First time ever. Glad to find your blog...nice to read some of your words outside of GoodReads reviews.

I believe the movie that adhered to me most growing up was the rapture film "Left Behind". Suddenly, at God's whim, cars are left unmanned , careening through intersections. If you got left behind , it would pay to have quick reflexes. There were more aspects that were both vaguely and overtly ominous " a piece of bread could buy a bag of gold" and the unsettling realization that you were s.o.l.

My mother's day is proceeding in an entirely reasonable fashion and I am glad to have had a chance to read this. Thanks!
